Musical career

Martin Spahr is a freelance conductor and artistic director of the Stadttheater Gießen, where he was principal conductor until 2022. In 2018 Spahr made his debut as part of the Wiesbaden May Festival, the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden and with the Reflex Ensemble, in 2019 with the Ensemble Modern Academy and at the Klangspuren Festival in Innsbruck and Schwaz and was the permanent conductor of the Bad Nauheim Course Symphony Orchestra until 2020.
Spahr achieved particular attention with the musical direction of the Schnittke opera LIFE WITH AN IDIOTEN, Heiner Goebbels' scenic concert SURROGATE CITIES, the dance theater premieres TITUS ANDRONICUS and METROPOLIS and many German-language premieres such as German premieres. In addition to the canon of music theater and concert literature, the main focus of his repertoire is the music of the 20th and 21st centuries Other conducting engagements have taken him to the Central Saxon Philharmonic, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic and the South Westphalian Philharmonic, as well as to the Wetzlar Festival. Spahr is an alumnus of the Academy of Music Theater of the Deutsche Bank Foundation.
